Ancient Libya - 6 days, 5 nights
Tripoli - Sabratha - Ghadames - Nalut - Gharyan - Leptis Magna - Tripoli
Combining the classical sites of Tripolitana with a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ghadames, this tour is a great option for first-timers to Libya or those with limited time. As well as getting to know the bustling capital of Tripoli, you will visit the Roman ruins of Sabratha and Leptis Magna. You will then head south-west to the ancient oasis town of Ghadames, a UNESCO World Heritage site, travelling en route through stunning desert scenery and stopping at ancient villages, granaries and even troglodyte cave dwellings.

Day 1
Tripoli 
Arrive Tripoli, transfer to hotel - orientation tour of city. Overnight Tripoli.

Day 2
Tripoli – Sabratha - Ghadames
After breakfast, depart to Sabratha, the westernmost of the three cities of Tripolis. Established c.500BC as a trading post by the Phoenician merchants, Sabratha is home to one of the world’s most magnificent Roman Theatres and spectacular mosaics of the Byzantine period.
Drive to Ghadames. Dinner and overnight Ghadames.

Day 3
Ghadames
Day sightseeing in Ghadames. This UNESCO World Heritage site, often called the ‘Jewel of The Sahara’ is an oasis town in Western Libya. With its distinctive mud buildings, it has a history spanning over 5000 years as home to the Tuareg Berbers is one of the oldest pre-Saharan settlements. Overnight Ghadames.

Day 4
Ghadames - Naulut - Gharyan - Tripoli
Morning drive to Nalut at the Western edge of the magnificent, wild scenery of the atmospheric Nafusa mountains. Nalut’s old town with its winding streets built on an escarpment with spectacular views is made up of hundreds of ghurfas – wonderful old multi-story buildings for storing grain. Drive on through the wonderful scenery to Gharyan, a troglodyte village with cave dwellings dug vertically down into the ground. Overnight Tripoli.

Day 5
Tripoli - Leptis Magna - Tripoli
Morning visit Tripoli old town. Drive to Leptis Magna, originally a Berber settlement, the city was founded by the Phoenicians around 3000 years ago. Leptis Magna has some of the most impressive and intact ruins of the Roman period, including a magnificent theatre, the basilica, Hadrianic baths and circus.

Day 6
Tripoli –
Depart 
Morning visit to Tripoli’s Jamahiriya Museum home to one of the finest collections of classical art in the Mediterranean. Free time in Tripoli to complete your shopping or relax by the pool.
Late afternoon departure for London.
