Long Weekend in Tripolitana - 4 days, 3 nights

Tripoli – Leptis Magna – Sabratha - Tripoli

If you are looking for an extraordinary long weekend away, then this trip will leave you thoroughly exhilarated, your thirst for history quenched and your senses tingling. Staying in one of Tripoli's top hotel's overlooking the azure blue Mediterranean, you will have time to relax by the pool, as well as plenty of opprtunity to explore the city's delights. Each day you will spend some time in Tripoli, exploring the elegant mosques, the animated souk, visiting the Jamahiriya Museum, and searching out hidden restaurants serving local delicacies. You will also spend ample time at each of the classical sites either side of Tripoli. The ancient cities of Leptis Magna and Sabratha are arguably the most impressive classical ruins in the whole Mediterranean. Together with Tripoli, these were the 'three cities' of the Roman province of Africa from which modern Tripoli takes its name.

Day 1
Tripoli  

Arrive Tripoli, transfer to hotel, orientation tour of city. Overnight Tripoli.

Day 2
Tripoli – Leptis Magna - Tripoli

Morning visit to Tripoli old town. Drive to Leptis Magna, originally a Berber settlement, the city was founded by the Phoenicians around 3000 years ago. Leptis Magna has some of the most impressive and intact ruins of the Roman period, including a magnificent theatre, the basilica, Hadrianic baths and circus.

Day 3
Tripoli - Sabratha - Tripoli

After breakfast, depart to Sabratha, the westernmost of the three cities of Tripolis. Established c.500BC as a trading post by the Phoenician merchants, Sabratha is home to one of the world’s most magnificent Roman Theatres and spectacular mosaics of the Byzantine period. 

Day 4
Tripoli - Depart

Morning visit to Tripoli’s Jamahiriya Museum home to one of the finest collections of classical art in the Mediterranean. Afternoon depart for airport.
