Libya Traveling info and Visa

Visiting and traveling in Libya can be a rich and rewarding experience. However, if you are not from an African or Arab country you will need a travel visa.

People from all nationalities are welcome to visit Libya with the exception of Israel nationals and those with Israeli stamps on their passports. United States citizens are normally issued visas without much problem. However, United States nationals have been refused Libya visas in the past because of political tensions.

Bear in mind that your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry. It's possible to get extensions but the waiting period can be excruciatingly long.

If you are visiting Libya for sight-seeing purposes, you will only be issued a visa if you are traveling as part of an organized tour. This takes much of the hassle out of getting an Iran visa as your tour operator should make the arrangements. The tour operator will also arrange all of your transport and accommodation needs as well as meals and guides.

Several tour services operate in Libya that can arrange vacations. It's possible to get a Libyan citizen to sponsor you when applying for a visa but this is rare. Also, it's important to specify your exact entry point into the country when traveling.

A tourist visa for Libya will cost approximately $40. You will also need:

* Two color passport-sized photographs
* Proof that you have enough money for your stay – at least $500
* Proof of exit travel
* Copies of payment for your tour or a letter of invitation from a Libyan citizen
* A competed application form

Processing your application should take about two weeks and you will have to enter the country within 45 days after visa issuance. You will also have to register with authorities within a week of arriving. Normally, all of this will be arranged by your tour operator if you've gone that route.

However, there are an increasing number of Libya visa services that offer to arrange visas for individuals who do not want to travel as part of a tour. Keep in mind that this will make for a much tougher traveling experience if you do not have friends or family in the country. Unless you are a seasoned, traveler it's best to go with a tour.
